Help me find healthy substitutes!!! PLEASE!!!

For me Summer is all about barbecues, family gatherings, bonfires and spending time outside. Going along with all those themes are foods that are specific to our families. In other words...I have found myself saying "I only want my mom's ________ " b/c it is the best I have ever had. No store bought alternative can suffice. SO...in keeping with that theme I am looking for help substituting the stuff that I am craving with better/healthier recipies. Here is the list of things that I am looking for low fat/low cal substitutes for! I am not opposed to using splenda and fat free stuff just fyi! -SWEET TEA- POTATO SALAD- SWEET VEGGIE MARINADE for my tomato, cucumber, onion salad(much like Noodles and Co. salad). What can you not live without in the summer? I am interested in knowing! THANKS IN ADVANCE. OH and just so you know for some reason my blogger won't let me create new paragraph's. That is why this is so squatty. THANKS!

Here's an awesome website that I think you'll like. I don't know if they will have exactly what you need but they have a lot of other cool stuff, and who knows, maybe you already know about it...

For me, Crystal Light iced tea is a decent substitute for the real thing. I also really like Nestea's Diet Green Tea. It is very light and refreshing. For the potato salad, maybe try a recipe where it is tossed in a vinaigrette instead of the heavy mayo based dressing. Or how about roasted potatoes with some EVOO, garlic & rosemary? Or just have a tiny bit as a treat. Um, for the sweet veggie marinade, how about a low-fat or fat-free Asian dressing? Newman's Own makes a low-fat Sesame Ginger dressing. Might not be the same but maybe you could "doctor it up". Sugar-free maple syrup does a good job of adding sweetness without the calories. Mostly I would try and determine what it is that you enjoy about each dish? The ingredients? The sweetness? The crunchiness? That will better help you decide how to make the recipe healthier.

Things I can not live without in the summer: my grill {I *love* grilled food!}, iced drinks like iced tea or iced chai or lemonade, lots of seasonal fruits and veggies like berries, melons, pineapple, sweet corn, tomatoes, salad {I love salad!}. I really like the veggie basket for my grill. I just toss a bunch of chopped veg like zucchini, peppers, onions, with EVOO & some spices & toss them in the basket to grill. Also works great for grilled fajitas too. HTH!!

I know this is an old post, but if you're still looking for a wonderful sweet tea without all the added sugar, I get a container of frozen concentrate peach white grape juice at Aldi and keep it open in my freezer. When I'm pouring tea for dinner, I scoop up a spoonful and stir it into a full glass of fresh brewed tea. Just like snapple! This way you can adjust the sweet to your liking and it's just fruit juice and tea.
