Help us with our GREAT CAR HUNT!!!!
Ok...I have been looking for over a month now for a good deal on a van and a car. So...I thought I would throw this out there and see if anyone could help us. We want to know where you bought your cars? Did you have a good experience? Do you know a car salesman? Do you know anyone who is selling a vehicle? We will be paying cash for both of these cars so they have to be reasonable and reliable. I have no problem haggling with a salesman(although my dad is much better at "haggling"). I am not even opposed to going a certain distace to find what we are looking for. So...if you have an idea, please help! Thanks!

We got our van, used, and Gary Lang. We didn't know anyone there but we have nothing but good things to say about our experience. Our sales guy was great (he was younger, Dan would remember his name). We had a price in mind and when he said the final price on the van, Dan told him that we would give him x amount out the door and he agreed. A couple of things I would recommend: Shop around, compare options, act like you aren't interested in buying something right away, and get the VIN numbers on the vehicles that you are interested in so you can look them up online to see how often they have been serviced and any prior accidents or problems. Good luck!
We typically find our cars over the internet first (autotrader). We have been able to do what Beth suggested a little easier that way since we have the kiddies. We have not loved any car place that we've gotten them from but have hated a couple we have gone to(but did not buy from), so you can call to find those out, I don't know if I should name the names. Overall I think Beth gave some great suggestions, and we've done all of them and it has worked out great for us! Hope you find what your looking for! Want to buy ours? :0)
In the 8 years we've been married, we've only purchased 2 vehicles. One was from a dealer. I wasn't even there. This second one was from a friend who gets junked and repo'd cars. We paid $600 for this Buick with 90,000 miles. My old Pontiac I bought off an ad in the paper & was extremely happy with that. I took someone with me who was a mechanic to check it over before buying. That car served me well. Are you just looking for something only slightly used or something inexpensive? I recall advice from Larry Burkett about buying cars. I think he said that the best value for your money would be to buy a car in that is between 18-24 months old since new cars loose their value so quickly. I think it helps to be really flexible & not have your heart set on any particular make, model or color. Also, I agree with what the other girls said, RESEARCH & MORE RESEARCH.
