We had a great day!

This year for the twins birthday we took them to the American Girl Place in Chicago. They enjoyed the train ride, shopping and lunch at the store and then a 2 mile walk back to the train where we had our very own dress up our dolls session.
They had a great day. One that I am sure they will remember for their entire lives. They hadn't been to Chicago since they were 2 months old and we visited daddy for his birthday(3/7), so they were excited to see the city.

I have been quite impressed with the American Girl books that we have read. They are stories that are historical and thought provoking and can hold my girls attention. I love that we are incorporating talking about a specific historical time period when we read the books. We have read the Kit series(great depression), Molly series(World War 2) and just started the Addy series(civil war). I would highly recommend the chapter books for girls who are great listeners or advanced readers(grade 1 and up). I think that any book that can interest the momma is a good thing! Anyways...here are some pictures from our day!

How fun! I am glad you guys had a great time. It made me think of hopefully doing that someday with Kaitlyn. How long were you guys there for?

We got on the 7:23am train and left on the 1:30pm train. I had to get home to feed Kendell. We took a cab from the train station because it was freezing in the morning but we walked the 2 miles back to the train station on the way back. It felt good to move after eating lunch, even though it was a light lunch(4 courses of lighter type food). The cutest thing is that at lunch they bring doll chairs for the dolls and little plates and cups. So the girls were giving their dolls "drinks" from their cups. They loved that!

Christin-I would recommend reading the Kit series because they are going to come out with the Kit movie on July 2nd. I don't know about you but there is something special about going to a movie when you have read the book series that it was based on. My mom used to have us read as an incentive to watch the movies when I was younger. And the Kit series is great! We are reading the addy series right now and my poor kellyn has been in tears because she is so upset about the idea of slavery. Oh...and thanks for the compliments about how I look...I am working hard ;)

I can't wait to check out the books at the library! Hopefully my mom can bring them this weekend ;>) I think this was such a GREAT suggestion also to see whether or not my daughter will be interested in getting a doll or just to spark her curiousity about the dolls & other time periods.

Can't wait to do my post about my AG doll sewing ;>)

Kylee just got an American Girl Doll (Julie) for Christmas and I would love to bring her here... you know Kylee, she would be in heaven!
I was looking on their website and was wondering if you did a special package or if you just went and paid separately for everything?

Because we had never been to American Girl Place we did pay for everything seperatly. If we had more time we would have probably gone to the show(American Girl Revue). It has great ratings from those who I researched but because of time we only did shopping and lunch. That was enough for our girls. They got to spend their birthday money and Sean and I did pay for lunch, train, and $50 of spending money. They bought 3 different outfits for their dolls and I got Kyla two different outfits for her Just Like Me doll too. She didn't have pj's yet and they had the weekend fun outfit on sale for $14.

All in all it was certainly not about the money...but...because I didn't want to stress about where the money was going to come from we put aside money earlier for this trip.

HTH!

P.S.-One of my girls wants Julie. She is really cute! Just wait until Kylee see's Mia!!!

I was just looking at the "Day at American Girl Place" package and all that it included and was wondering if it would be better to do that rather then pay for everything separate!
